Touareg Features
The Touareg is made for long trips and off-road excursions and a tow hitch is almost a necessity for such situations, but it can be unsightly and get in the way when it is not in use. The electrically extendable and retractable tow hitch is the perfect solution and is offered as an option on the V8 and V10 Touareg models.
Extends when needed
The hitch ball extends down from a hidden location in the bumper and automatically swivels to the driving direction and locks securely in place. The operating unit for the system consists of a rocker button in the right-hand side panel in the boot and the towing ball is extended/retracted by pressing the rocker switch appropriately.
Safety first
For safety purposes, the foldable towing ball can be extended/retracted only when the vehicle is stationary with the ignition switched off and the tailgate and/or the rear window open. To avoid damage the towing ball should be brought into the rest position when the system is not in use.
Ultimate towing vehicle
The Touareg has a maximum load capacity of 3 500kg for trailers and 1 640kg for the rear axle. In fact, the Touareg has even broken records by towing a 155 ton Boeing! Find out more about how the Touareg towed a Boeing 747.
