Satellite Navigation System
Touareg Features
In the old days, navigation was done using the stars, compasses and more than a dash of luck. While this spirit of adventure lives on, the Touareg’s onboard electronic satellite navigation system makes sure that wherever you want to go, with the Touareg, you will be able to get there.
How does it work?
The navigation system works with data received from satellite communication that is then evaluated and compared with information stored on the navigation discs. The discs contain information on roads, outlines of woods, forests, waterways, lakes and towns, as well as databases with names of roads and places. As soon as you enter your destination, the route is then calculated to get you there. And because you may want to take the road less travelled, the system allows you to influence your route guidance. For example, you may choose to avoid highways, toll roads, or you may wish to break your journey and stop over somewhere along the way.
Getting you there
A full colour map with your current position and additional information can be found on the screen of the SatNav unit. Route guidance is given via audible instructions with pre announcements and reminders on where to turn. In addition, directional arrows, road names and distance to travel figures are displayed.
Off the beaten path
For road areas that are not digitised by the navigation system, you can still find the details you need to help orientate yourself. The “Info” button reveals your position as a GPS reference, the compass reading and the current direction, the direction and distance to your destination, the altitude above sea level, the steering wheel angle and the status of the differential locks.
A soundtrack for every journey
The navigation system also acts as a multi media centre. You can also play music CDs or watch TV programmes on the high quality 7-inch display in 16:9 or 4:3 format. For obvious safety reasons you can only watch these when the Touareg is stationary. The satellite navigation system is also capable of connection to auxiliary audio and video equipment. Television satellite navigation is optional.
