Volkswagen Masters 2009 Feedback
The Volkswagen Masters is a premium international golfing tournament where Volkswagen’s most valued ‘drivers’ from around the world are invited to compete in a series of tournaments in their country of origin. The national winners then go on to compete with representatives from around the world. The Volkswagen Masters has firmly established itself as an event not to be missed. All of the Masters events take place on South Africa’s foremost golf courses and for the second year, MyTouareg website members were invited to play in three of the events as part of this year’s tournament.
The first of these events was held on 12 June at the Country Club Johannesburg’s Rocklands course, the second on 15 July at the Gary Player-designed Erinvale golf course in Somerset West, while the third event took place on 29 July at the
Mount Edgecombe Country Club in Umhlanga.
Petrus Arnold, Andre Mouton, Ike Ngwena and Connor McLoughlin tackled Country Club Johannesburg’s Rocklands course. Recently refurbished, it’s easy for the beauty of the new course to distract players. However, this challenging course requires golfers of all levels to concentrate throughout the round. This didn’t stop Petrus, Andre, Ike and Connor from enjoying each other’s company, sharing their Touareg experiences and playing a pleasurable game of golf.
Although the weather was not at it’s best on 15 July, Erinvale’s majestic mountain backdrops, panoramic views of the surrounding vineyard hillsides and sparkling views of the ocean from the higher vantage points more than made up for it. The MyTouareg players at this event included John Boshoff, Sean Harrison, Etienne Venter and Abel van der Merwe. Special congratulations must go to John Boshoff, who came third in his category, winning for himself a luxury Adidas ‘hold all’ travel bag.
Mike Oldfield, Gary Weddell, Andre du Plessis and Roy Eckstein made up a formiddable MyTouareg four-ball at
Mount Edgecombe on 29 July. Designed to uniquely offer the competitive golfer a true test of golf and the social golfer an enjoyable round, Mount Edgecombe’s course proved to provide the perfect platform for the day.
Three events, three courses and yet one overwhelmingly positive experience for all players alike. It seems the Volkswagen Masters Tournament just gets better and better each year.
Feedback from the players at all three events was overwhelmingly positive. Here's what some of them had to say:
‘This was one of the most enjoyable golf days I’ve been to in a long time. I played my best golf in months and the outcome did not matter. Thanks again to the Touareg Team!’ – Andre Du Plessis
‘The organizers arranged a memorable event that will not be easily forgotten as one was given the celebrity treatment from the minute one arrived and this continued until after the dinner and prize giving. Congratulations to the Touareg team as well as the winners and organisers of the event.’ – John Boshoff
‘What a nice event, I really enjoyed it!’ – Peet Arnold
