Volkswagen Driving Academy 2009
The Volkswagen Driving Academy, based at the Kyalami Grand Prix Racing Circuit in Johannesburg, offers highly sought-after driving courses and special events at selected venues all over the country.
Valentine’s Day Pampering
This year a number of special Touareg events took place, starting with a Valentine’s Day celebration on 14 February. Couples were invited to join the Driving Academy team for a 4x4 drive and hijack prevention course, complimented by a special treat from Mangwanani Spa. Ladies received a gift pack of Lindt chocolates and body pampering goodies, while the men each received a Swiss Army Knife and Maglite torch.
To keep energy levels as high as the level of excitement, refreshing fruit cocktails were served on arrival, followed by a delicious finger lunch in the middle of the day. What surprised the team most during this event was the number of ladies who were rearing to do the 4x4 obstacle course! Step aside gentlemen!
Mother’s Day to Remember
For Mother’s Day, 10 May, a hijack prevention session followed by a 4X4 course was held at the Driving Academy’s premises in Kyalami.
The 18 mothers were taught techniques, escape routes and other important information to help them either to avoid or survive a hijacked situation, as well as the ins and outs of 4x4 off-road driving.
After their time behind the wheel, our guests were treated to a special Mother’s Day meal and were given a gift pack of body pampering products and a voucher to the Mangwanani day spa. Just our way of saying “Thanks Mom!”
Father’s Day Festivities
On Father’s Day, 20 June, a ‘Game Drive’ at the De Wildt Game Reserve saw a full complement of twenty guests starting with the basics of 4x4 driving.
They then graduated to traversing riverbeds and practiced the necessary skill of ‘large SUV’ tyre changing, helped along by the tricks that the expert instructors imparted to make the task easier. And what man could call a day complete without a spit-braai? This lunch went down a treat followed by a game drive to conclude this enjoyable and very successful event.
Durban Roadshow
Between the 27th and 29th of July, clients in Durban and the wider KwaZulu-Natal region were treated to a skidpan course, a high performance course, a 4X4 or hijack prevention course. An enjoyable day was had by all as they experienced the capabilities and pleasure of driving the renowned Touaregs and iconic New GTI’s at the Eston Test Track Facility.
Cape Town Roadshow
On the 8th of September, Cape Town clients were treated to a full day at the Melkbosstrand 4x4 Trail. The wind joined the guests as a cold front brought some typical Cape Town rainy weather. This made the obstacle course more challenging and proved to guests once again that “it’s amazing what you can do in a Touareg”.
From the 9th to the 11th of September, the Killarney Race Circuit in Cape Town hosted the Volkswagen Driving Academy for courses on hijack prevention as well as high performance driving. The raw power and amazing handling capabilities of the New GTI were clearly demonstrated around the circuit. In addition, a defensive driving course took clients onto the roads of Cape Town and imparted the necessary skills to help clients prevent dangerous situations during every-day driving.
