Model Race Touareg
With its high-tech body optimised for aerodynamic efficiency and assuring maximum driver visibility, the Race Touareg tips the scales at just about 50 kilograms. The basic shape was developed by Volkswagen's design studio at Braunshweig as early as in 2005 and subsequently refined in wind tunnel tests as well as by means of complex CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) calculations.
Further modifications and detailed improvements before this year's Dakar resulted in the Race Touareg completely dominating the event, claiming ten of the possible 13 stage wins and securing all three podium finishes for most of the rally. In the end, Volkswagen finished first and second with a South African in each of the Race Touareg’s cockpits.
